History

The Winnipeg Women's Soccer League (WWSL) came into existence in 1983 with four (4) registered teams. In the ensuing thirty three years, the League has grown by leaps and bounds.

The WWSL is a self-governing, incorporated body, comprised of volunteers that support the soccer community by providing both an Indoor and Outdoor League for players eighteen (18) years of age and older.

Currently , we have a Premiere, First through Fifth Divisions and a Masters Division. The present Divisions allow for varying degrees of play. Our Masters Division is just in its infancy but we hope to be able to expand it in the future.

The WWSL has taken, along with its other partners, an active leadership role in the soccer community. We are represented on the Manitoba Soccer Association Board, the Winnipeg Soccer Federation Board and many other committees dedicated to supporting and improving the game of soccer in Manitoba.

Following the Pam-Am Games in Winnipeg, a soccer venue was created at Red River College which is home to our two fabulous soccer pitches. Our working relationship with Red River College has been the best that anyone could ask for," bar none". From the beginning, they have supported and encouraged our endeavors and assisted us whenever possible. They are an example, in the truest form, of what can be accomplished when people work together for the greater good.

Soccer is a rapidly growing sport especially on the female side. For all the hundreds of young girls currently playing soccer at the youth level, the WWSL provides the opportunity to continue their playing careers.

With the continued growth in youth soccer, an increased retainment of young soccer players and the increase in women in the Masters category, we anticipate continued growth within our League.
